The Long Walk review by Alex

The Long Walk is a horror film based on the Stephen King novel, directed by Francis Lawrence and written by JT Mollner and Stephen King. Set in a dystopian future where America falls into a police state, with only one way to escape poverty being to sign up for a contest to win whatever they choose. The main aim of the contest being to walk until you’re the last man standing, 3 strikes you’re out. You’ll be following Raymond Garraty (played by Cooper Hoffman) as he navigates the long walk, spearheaded by the host of the competition “The Major” (played by Mark Hamill).

It’s been a while since I’ve watched a Stephen King film and oh boy this one doesn’t disappoint, my eyes were completely glued to the screen from start to finish. This film really tugs on your heartstrings as you watch the events unfold, even though you know that only one can win, it still is able to make you get attached to the contestants as they all hold out hope for winning. The impact of each death is felt by the cast and is also past along to you the viewer, director Lawrence knew exactly what to do with the script and ran with it.

The genre of Horror perfectly describes this film and it doesn’t disappoint, from start to end you’ll be hooked and on the edge of your seat. Whether you’re a fan of Stephen King’s works, just getting started, or looking for a great horror, don’t miss this film!
