Dune

Dune review by Con

Dune is based in a Science fiction world, dictated by a precious substance known as Spice. Spice is a drug that stimulates creature behavior, as well as being the key to interstellar travel – making it the most valuable substance in the universe.

The movie centers around the main character Paul, as he looks to fine tune his mind control powers and learns of his true destiny and future role surrounded by a backdrop of intergalactic turmoil.

Pauls’s family make a move to take complete control of the Spice mining for the Galaxy, but they are not alone in their want to have total dominance over the Spice production within the Universe!!!

I really liked the special effects, they are absolutely amazing. My favourite thing in the movie is the worms!!!

Much like The Lord of the Rings/ The Hobbit movies, Dune will be Marmite to many cinema goers. You’ll either love it or hate it – there’s no in-between with this film. We really enjoyed it though!!!

PlayStation 5 – Death Stranding Directors Cut

PlayStation 5 – Death Stranding Directors Cut review

Have you ever wondered how a postman could save the world by delivering parcels from place A to B, amidst constant attacks from invisible, blind ghosts and a cult of mask-wearing bandits? I’m almost certainly sure that exact question had never crossed your mind until now, yet if it had then you are in luck as that is exactly the premise of Hideo Kojima’s, visual spectacle, Death Stranding.

Being first released in November of 2019, Death Stranding proved to be the marmite of that year’s games as many gamers rushed to praise the creation and many others not being able to contain their disappointment at the first game produced from Kojima productions after their split from Konami. With the brand new Directors Cut where are the ‘supposed issues’ are fixed? And is there enough to warrant the upgrade for returning players?

Well, to answer the first question, yes… and no. The Directors Cut provides players with brand new weapons, abilities, and means of transport allowing players to diversify their experience taking away some of the monotony of travelling, yet the introduction of new abilities only adds to the ease of taking down the BT bosses and the introduction these vehicles have no impact on the opening 10 hours which arguably needed the most restructuring out of any section of the game.

I really enjoyed the addition of the buddy bot, a small Robo-companion whom carries cargo for Sam on his travels. I also really noticed the smoothing out of the combat with stealth takedowns being introduced and the overall game mechanics just feeling cleaner, yet this felt once again like an issue that wasn’t in desperate need of fixing.

I would have loved to see a revamp of the inventory system, even if only slightly; being one of the least enjoyable aspects of the game.

The firing range also provided some fun gameplay, allowing players to test out weapons to their heart’s content while also competing against other players with another great integration to Death Stranding’s multiplayer system.

To answer the second question I would say the Directors Cut will certainly attract returning players to the new upgraded version. If you enjoyed and completed the first edition, the Directors Cut will be a near-perfect game for you; only bettering aspects and not definitely not worsening any of the gameplay.

New vehicles gift players more to have fun with, giving them close to a sandbox experience within the beautiful landscapes if they so wish. The new missions are also exciting and fresh being especially fun to tackle with the previously mentioned new abilities. The fact the upgrade is only £5 at the time of writing this review makes it ever more worthwhile – being a genuine bargain for returning players.

Overall the Directors Cut introduces improvements, yet I feel it could have maybe focused on other aspects which were more widely criticized by some of the early gaming audience. All of that said, the new edition is clearly far superior to its predecessor.

This game is likely to be Marmite within the gaming community – but there’s no denying the brilliance of its unique gameplay/Story/Soundtrack and the PlayStation 5 graphics are absolutely stunning. If you love this game, you’ll really love it!!!

LiveNow – MAMAMOO review by Caitlin

What better way of starting May than enjoying a Mamamoo concert from the comfort of my living room. Thanks to LIVENow I could sing and scream as loud as I wanted without being bothered by others. If you aren’t familiar with the vibrant yet complicated world of K-pop, you may be confused and asking yourself what and who are Mamamoo?

Mamamoo are a 4 member Korean girl group that debuted in 2014 under RBW Consisting of leader Solar, main rapper Moonbyul, main dancer Wheein and youngest member and lead vocalist Hwasa. Mamamoo known for their jazz and R&B inspired discography kickstarted their career with the song Mr Ambiguous. Before 2014 all members individually auditioned for various entertainment companies and finally were accepted to RBW and trained for a total of three years. The agency wanted to form a group that could sing well while having fun on stage.

Originally there were nine trainees and through monthly evaluations, we were left with the current four members that we know today finally fitting the image and standard that the CEO had envisioned for the group.

The idea behind Mamamoo was to have members who were conveyed as artists rather than idols giving them the idea for their debut single going for an R&B soul sound that had not been done before by any K-pop girl group at the time.

In March 2016, they received their first number one win on SBS Inkigayo with the song ‘You’re the best’ followed by another 7 wins on other music shows. Since then they have released many hits such as ‘Yes I am’, ‘Starry night’ and my favourite ‘Hip’.

During their 6-year long career, Mamamoo have made a name for themselves with their amazing vocals and bright unique concepts having a big influence with their girl power energy on a new and upcoming group on the K-pop scene.

My favourite song by Mamamoo before the concert was the absolute smasher known as ‘Hip’ however after the show my opinion has drastically changed. As of yesterday, I have found a new love for the song ‘Gogobebe’ there live rock version of the song is an absolute masterpiece and took me by surprise.

Overall, my online Mamamoo concert experience was very much enjoyable. The show was well executed with a combination of scenery and outfit changes, taking the time to talk to those at home made it feel almost like the same in-person experience.

After this gig, I have found a newfound respect for Mamamoo as performers. I had never had the opportunity to watch them perform before and have been blown away by their stage presence and talent that they all have. As a group it is evident that they have good chemistry as well as a strong friendship that shows on stage. The production of the show mirrored
the same structure as an in-person concert making it an even more immersive experience.

My final scoring will be 5/5 stars I would give more if possible as an old K-pop fan myself I can proudly say that Mamamoo are one of the best groups to watch live their passion and level of professionalism beamed through my tv screen and I would gladly see them again.
