We love Agatha Christie and Sir Kenneth Branagh is brilliant as the legendary Hercule Poirot. It’s cheesy, it’s camp, but it’s bloody good fun and wonderful big screen escapism. If you’ve not had a break abroad for a while – you’re in for a treat. Death on the Nile is like going on a Murder Mystery Holiday in Egypt for two hours. You can almost feel the sun on your face as you watch!!!

Jackass Forever review
Fast forward to 2022 and the Jackass troupe are back with some new blood to torture and more chaotic acts of madness – but as funny or as awful (Dependent of on what side of the fence you fall with Jackass fandom) as they’ve ever been.
Over the last twenty-two years much has changed in the world, with YouTubing ridiculous acts of stupidity becoming a part of our daily life. The Jackass TV show was so ahead of its time, it provided short form content of people doing insane things, before much of the internet content we all love today. They genuinely revolutionised entertainment as we watch it in the modern era, way before YouTube was part of the mainstream the Jackass gang were pushing the human body to its absolute limit and laughing through the pain all for our entertainment.
For anyone who’s never seen Jackass before, it’s basically a compilation of stupid stuff and total escapism. Everything about them is so disgusting in what they do and try to achieve. But it’s brilliant ‘shut your brain off’ fun with many a moment watching the depraved acts through your hands, in some form of solidarity with the poor soul suffering before you on screen.
The only shame with this movie is that the BBFC gave it a 18 certificate. Fifteen, Sixteen and Seventeen year old’s watch content like this all the time and most are mature enough to know not to copy what they see on screen. It feels a little like they’re protecting themselves and the certification system rather than young adults (under Eighteen) who fully know all they need to know by now about adult genitalia and its various functions. After the two years youngsters have had to endure, they really could have done with a cinema experience like Jackass Forever in their lives.
If you hate Jackass, your opinion won’t change after seeing Jackass Forever. But if you want to see grown men and women sh@tting themselves and hurting each other for kicks, you’re in for a real treat. This is a great group outing for a bundle of mates.

It’s 98 minutes of grown Men and Woman doing the most ridiculous things and sh@tting themselves on screen for our entertainment. If you hate stuff like this, you’re in for the worst hour and a half of your life. If like us, this is exactly the escapism you needed after the last two years – Jackasss Forever will be your favourite cinema experience of 2022!!!

What film made you fall in love with the horror industry and why was it so special?
Alan Jones – It was the lurid posters that hooked me, always suggesting what they really couldn’t deliver, but you hoped they would time and again. That’s why I have a vast collection of the sleaziest and most shocking.
Horror is special because it can define us, for what scares each of us is so individual and personal. So when we meet someone to share that with, it’s a connection for life, the reason why FrightFest is such a tight community.
Ian Rattray – The Exorcist scared me silly when I first saw it. So much that I slept with the light on for a couple of weeks.
Paul McEvoy – It was DON’T LOOK NOW…..still my favourite horror film of all time…I watched it when I was far too young……the ending absolutely terrified me……I had to go and sleep in my parents bed that night as the ending played over and over in my mind……The film is an absolute masterpiece – but I still get terrified by that ending!
Greg Day – FROGS with Ray Milland. I was fourteen and had got into a late night horror bill at the then ABC in Hastings. I stuffed tissue paper into my shoes to make me appear taller.
I was transfixed and immediately fell in love with the horror genre.
If you could pick three films from the August 2021 FrightFest line up that defines the highest quality of Horror filmmaking in 2021 – what films would they be and why?
Alan Jones – SOUND OF VIOLENCE, THE ADVENT CALENDAR, THE SADNESS because they each move the genre into a new direction, the first two using disability in very clever and meaningful ways, the latter because just when you thought you couldn’t watch another pandemic movie, a new sexual wrinkle adds an incredible shock factor.
Ian Rattray – SWEETIE, YOU WON’T BELIEVE IT – just because it is so much fun. BOY#5 – because something so good was made for so little. PRISONERS OF THE GHOSTLAND – because it star Nicolas Cage and when he goes full on Nicolas Cage it is a sight and sound to behold
Paul McEvoy – A difficult one to pick just three from our bright bouncing babies…but of pushed..
DAWN BREAKS BEHIND THE EYES..a wonderful film that throws your expectations……this will look phenomenal projected up on that huge screen. THE SADNESS…which could / should be called THE MADNESS…absolute jaw-dropping insanity from start to phenomenal finish. THE LAST THING MARY SAW…a sombre, atmospheric tour de force from a sensational new talent.
But..can’t I have …KING KNIGHT / OFFSEASON/ THE RETALIATORS etc etc…
Greg Day – SOUND OF VIOLENCE – a film where sound is the vision, SWEETIE, YOU WON’T BELIEVE THIS – a true gory belter from Kazakhstan. (Think Carry on DELIVERANCE) and PRISONER OF THE GHOSTLAND – a brilliant Nic Cage aside, this is a surreal feast for the eye, worthy of Jodorowsky.

Alan Jones – FABULOUS
Ian Rattray – Friendly. If you talk to others attending, they respond and many a friendship has resulted.
Paul McEvoy – EXCITING! Because as our audience have learnt overt years ..there is NOTHING better in the world than sitting in a dark room, surrounded by your friends and like minded souls watching and experiencing something together. And to any folks coming for the first time…we hope you enjoy the experience!
Greg Day – Shared. Everyone shares their experience, their warmth, their passion for the films.
Choose one aspect of the festival for why youngsters age 18-25 years love being at FrightFest?
Alan Jones – Because you always meet the genre stars of tomorrow today.
Ian Rattray – Discovery. Take a chance on some of our discovery Strand films, which are often the best films in the festival and who may just discover the hidden gem.
Paul McEvoy – Similar answer to the previous question, the atmosphere is unique, electric and SO very different to any other festival or film going experience. Dune review by Con
Dune is based in a Science fiction world, dictated by a precious substance known as Spice. Spice is a drug that stimulates creature behavior, as well as being the key to interstellar travel – making it the most valuable substance in the universe.
The movie centers around the main character Paul, as he looks to fine tune his mind control powers and learns of his true destiny and future role surrounded by a backdrop of intergalactic turmoil.
Pauls’s family make a move to take complete control of the Spice mining for the Galaxy, but they are not alone in their want to have total dominance over the Spice production within the Universe!!!
I really liked the special effects, they are absolutely amazing. My favourite thing in the movie is the worms!!!

Much like The Lord of the Rings/ The Hobbit movies, Dune will be Marmite to many cinema goers. You’ll either love it or hate it – there’s no in-between with this film. We really enjoyed it though!!!

Marvel are back on the big screen and this Martial Arts Superhero (New to the MCU) certainly ticks all the right boxes for what you want to see in an action popcorn flick. To say this movie looks good on the IMAX screen is an understatement – This character was born to be seen on IMAX!!!
