Nintendo Switch – JackBox Party Pack 10 & JackBox Survey Scramble review by Alex

Jackbox Party Pack 10 is a collection of party games for everyone to enjoy, included are five different activities; Fixy Text, Tee K.O. 2, Time Jinx, Dodo Re Mi, and Hypnotorious. To get the most out of this pack you will want to have at-least four people in order to play all the games, and up to eight or nine depending on the game. Getting everyone involved is simple, you can either use the app or website to join in and only one copy of the game is needed. Moderation and family friendly options are toggleable making this game appealing to everyone!

My personal favourite game out of the pack had to be Time Jinx, you and your other players are time travellers and you are tasked with travelling to different historical events. You just have to know what year they happened (or close to it), along with some other related side quests like blending in within the time period. The person with the lowest score at the end of the game wins! I particularly liked this one as it has more recent events and more historical ones, from knowledge of Soviet leaders to weird television adverts in the early 2000s. I haven’t even scraped the surface of what other subjects there are during my playthroughs.

My only real critique of the pack would be some of the more American centric questions that pop up from time to time, while it is understandable as Jackbox Games is a Chicago based company but for anyone outside of the US (which is a lot of people) it makes the game a bit difficult. I appreciated the button that limits the American centric questions, I still found myself and my friends stumped on some of the more obscure early American President questions.

Overall this Party Pack is an Excellent addition to the Jackbox Party Pack Franchise, and is a must have for when you have friends and or family over or online through services like Discord. Definitely worth picking up on your preferred platform!

JackBox Survey Scramble is a quiz game that tests your knowledge on a variety of subjects in unique and entertaining ways. Included are 6 different game modes; HiLo, Bounce, Squares, Speed, Dares, and Dash. To get the most out of this pack you will want to have at-least two people in order to play the game modes (although I would recommend at least four), and up to ten players excluding the Audience. Getting everyone involved is simple, you can either use the app or website to join in and only one copy of the game is needed. Moderation and family friendly options are toggleable making this game appealing to everyone!

My personal favourite game mode out of these was Bounce, control of the paddle is alternated between two teams and in order to move the paddle you must give answers with varying popularity to move position. I found this to be chaotically fun and challenging, the added pressure of the ball bouncing and needing to come up with a word that was just right to bounce the ball to prevent the other team from scoring. Reusing words came with a penalty to up the ante as they would shrink the paddle making things harder, on top of the ball getting faster with every answer it made for very entertaining gameplay.

Overall Jackbox Survey Scramble is definitely worth a pickup for any social gathering or online games night, with constantly refreshing surveys and answers it’s a no brainer. Definitely worth picking up on your preferred platform!

Sonic X Shadow Generations

Sonic X Shadow Generations review by Alex

Sonic X Shadow Generations is a new instalment in the 3D Sonic Universe. This time, the player will experience an all new expansion to Shadow’s story, along with Sonic’s story all brought up to date with modern consoles in mind.

When in the main menu, you are presented with either Sonic’s story or Shadow’s. Specifically for this review I’ll be focusing on the Shadow Segment, as it is all new content. You get the usual plethora of options along with a catch-up of Shadow’s story up to this point, I found this feature quite useful as it caught me up on the story of shadow from his 2005 game.

For stage selection, initially you are thrown straight into the first level. However upon completion you are sent into a level select area which adapts and expands depending on how much you’ve completed/ unlocked, this is very reminiscent of the Sonic portion. Levels are contained in different zones, they each have different locations and can require some exploring to get to.

Guidance on each ability is presented with the usual means in a modern sonic game, that being the question mark in a multi-coloured circle. There are also visual cues as well as audio cues on when to use or which ability, boss battles for instance can be very time sensitive on whether you hit or get it. These can range from onscreen button prompts, to subtle pattern in attack / defence.

Shadow’s combat is very interesting, you get presented with different options throughout the story with their ups and downs, from projectiles to the usual sonic abilities to Shadow’s time stop ability. Gameplay is very much what you’d expect from a Sonic game with some extra twists for Shadow’s story, fast paced and sick music.

Graphics have been enhanced in the current gen versions, bringing the sonic story’s visuals up to par with modern consoles. I am also happy to report that this game is compatible with last gen consoles, this is a welcome addition as many game studios are starting to move away from backporting. This is likely due to the still millions of players on previous gen consoles, rich for many are more than adequate for their gaming needs.

As with other sonic games, you can go back to any level you like, in fact you are encouraged to to unlock all of the collectables that you may have missed. Throughout the levels of are tons of different collectibles, as well as the incentive to get a high score / rank for each level. This is influenced by how fast you made it through the level, as well as rings.

What I dislike about the game is that the menu can be a bit confusing, while I like that you have a sort of sandbox in the menu to do as you please. I’d much rather a menu which I can flick to or a way to teleport over to a level. A feature I wish was included was a way to try out an ability in a separate area, on top of the question mark bubbles should be a button to take you to a test facility. Here it could teach you the basics / allow you to get a feel for the ability before using it in level. I often died due to my inability to use new powers quick enough or in the right way. Other than that, my experience with the game has been overall positive.

This game is an excellent addition to the the Sonic Franchise. From the improved visual fidelity offered by current gen consoles, to new game mechanics and story offered by Shadow’s segment . It is a must buy for both resuming players, those who have been out of the loop, and new alike!!!

Funko Fusion

Funko Fusion review by Con

Available on PlayStation, XBox and PC (PEGI 16) 3 Stars

Youth #Gottit View:

Con’s expectations for this game were sky high, as he’s such a huge fan of Pop figures and Funko products. He really likes Funko Fusion – but hopes that the future updates add more to the gameplay for his age group of fans. If this game had of been a PEGI 7 or PEGI 12, it would have scored higher on Kidzcoolit. But with games directed at a PEGI 16 or PEGI 18 audience, it needed a bit more ‘grit’ to the levels. This is a must play for Funko and fans of the IP’s within this game though!!!

Youth #Gottit View:

If you’re expecting an action packed experience from the start, that’s not what Hogwarts Legacy is. This is the gaming experience Wizarding Word fans have been desperate for. Although this is a new story, it plays out in a similar way to the book and movie series, with what feels like total access to the surroundings of Hogwarts. Absolutely beautiful looking game – A must play for all Wizarding World fans!!!

Nintendo Switch Online – Goldeneye

Nintendo Switch Online – Goldeneye review by Con

Available in the Nintendo 64 Expansion Pack 27/1/23 (PEGI 16) 4.5 Stars

Youth #Gottit View:

It’s a classic. It’s a game that many youngsters have heard of, but never played. Goldeneye isn’t just a celebration of a Bond movie. It’s a release that defined and inspired a whole genre of gaming.

I’m not too sure why PEGI gave it a PEGI 16 rating. This game should really be rated PEGI 12 as there are many mobile games with far more realistic graphics that carry the PEGI 12 rating. If you loved this game back in the day or you’re much younger and love the history of gaming and just need to know what all the fuss is about – you’re in for a blast. Goldeneye needs a remake – Highly Recommended!!!
